Born Donor Bank
Description
Born Donor Bank, launched in 2017 and now part of the Medicover Group, is a Danish sperm bank based in Aarhus, with additional locations in Copenhagen, Odense and Aalborg. Born has a donor policy having worldwide family limits for how many families each donor can help worldwide. The standard limits are either 25 or 75 families per donor, and this approach supports:
- greater transparency for clinics and families
- improved medical traceability should the need arise in the future
- a reduced risk of large international donor sibling groups
Born also takes an altruistic approach to donor recruitment, ensuring that donation takes place with care for future families and donor-conceived individuals. All donor profiles are detailed and based on interviews, questionnaires and conversations. Born ships sperm samples worldwide and the Client Care team communicates in several languages, including English, Danish, German and French, so clients can feel comfortable and supported throughout the process.
Donor types and services
Born Donor Bank offers both Non-ID Release and ID-Release donors. Donor profiles include both basic and extended information, such as personal characteristics and childhood photos. Born provides donor sperm in both IUI and ICI straws with different motility options, giving clients the flexibility to select the preparation that best suits their treatment plan. Born donors have limits for how many families each donor can help worldwide with the standard limits being either 25 or 75 families per donor.
Genetic test panel
All donors undergo genetic screening for autosomal recessive diseases, including, but not limited to: Cystic Fibrosis (CFTR), Non-syndromic hearing loss (GJB2), Beta-hemoglobinopathies (HBB), Alpha-thalassemia (HBA1, HBA2), Spinal muscular atrophy (SMN1), Tay-Sachs disease (HEXA), Phenylketonuria (PAH). In addition, donors are screened for chromosome abnormalities, STDs, and CMV, ensuring compliance with Danish and EU standards and providing a high level of safety for recipients.
