Coast to Coast Sperm Donation (C2C) is a U.S.-based sperm bank and directed donor-matching program headquartered in San Diego, California. It serves individuals and couples requiring donor sperm and acts as a liaison between intended parents, sperm donors and fertility clinics. C2C is FDA-registered and licensed in New York, California and Colorado.
The bank positions transparency, connection and ethics at the center of its donor program. Its model is designed to give intended parents extensive information about donors while protecting the future interests of donor-conceived people. C2C provides adult and childhood photographs, videos, detailed donor profiles, verified academic information and, where appropriate, facilitated personal video calls between donors and intended parents.
C2C offers both frozen donor sperm vials and directed sperm donor matching. The program applies a maximum limit of six family units worldwide per donor, which is substantially lower than the limits used by most other commercial sperm banks.
Donor types and services
C2C works only with donors who agree to identity release. It offers three donor-contact arrangements: Identity-Release, Semi or Limited Identified, and Identified donation. At minimum, all donors agree that their identity may be released to a donor-conceived person at age 18 after the genetic relationship is verified. Many donors are open to contact earlier than age 18.
Identity-Release donors remain non-identified to intended parents during matching, but identifying information can later be released to an adult donor-conceived person. Semi/Limited Identified arrangements allow limited personal or identifying information to be shared after donation or following a confirmed pregnancy or birth. Identified arrangements allow the donor and intended parents to share some or all identifying and contact information during the process. Donors agree to provide ongoing medical updates.
Customer service is provided primarily in English with personalized matching and case-management support for intended parents throughout donor selection and the donation process.
C2C is a smaller sperm donor bank compared with some of the other providers presented and hence their international reach is less developed at present.
Genetic test panel
C2C requires genetic screening as part of donor qualification, but the website does not specify a fixed expanded-carrier panel size or number of genes/conditions. Screening includes review of the donor’s medical, mental-health and genetic family history, and donors may undergo genetic testing according to the requirements of the fertility clinic and program. C2C also requires infectious-disease testing, including CMV testing for medically pre-screened donors.
Donor qualification and screening additionally include semen analysis, infectious-disease testing, criminal and civil background checks, psychological evaluation and medical assessment. Donors must generally be U.S. citizens aged 21–38, have a healthy BMI, be non-smokers, have no drug use or criminal record, and meet lifestyle and health criteria. C2C requests verified academic records such as transcripts and standardized-test reports where applicable.
C2C is registered with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA registration no. 3031886728) and lists licenses/registrations with the New York Department of Health (3173), Colorado (440033) and California (CTB 0082487).
