Cryobank America
Description
Cryobank America opened in 2017 and supplies screened donor sperm for assisted reproduction to U.S. clients and also international distribution, subject to the requirements of the receiving destination.
It presents its mission as to help people build families through donor recruitment, laboratory screening, sperm processing and storage, and individual guidance for recipients. It is FDA registered and inspected, CLIA certified and lists a number of US state registrations and licenses.
Cryobank America also provides personal sperm banking, directed or known donor collection, semen analysis and genetic counseling services. Its serves clients being couples, single parents and LGBTQ+ families. The bank states that approximately 1% of all donor applicants are accepted into its donor program.
Donor types and services
Cryobank America offers Open ID and Closed ID donors. An Open ID donor consents to release of his full name and the possibility of a one-time contact facilitated by the bank when the donor-conceived person reaches age 18 and requests it, while ongoing contact is not guaranteed. A Closed ID donor does not consent to future disclosure of identifying information or facilitated contact.
Donors can be searched online by characteristics including physical traits, background, CMV status and vial availability. A free account provides basic profile information, while paid memberships provide additional material that may include extended health and family history, essays, audio interviews and, for participating donors, adult photographs. The bank also advertises photo-matching assistance.
Donor sperm is offered in IUI and ICI samples, with ART/IVF and ICSI vial grades for different clinical uses. The bank advertises a worldwide limit of 25 families per donor. Donors are retired from new-family sales, when that limit is reached, while remaining vials may be reserved for families with a confirmed birth seeking a sibling.
Genetic test panel
The panel varies by donor release date. Cryobank America states that donors released after 28 July 2025 are screened with the Natera Horizon panel for 560 genetic conditions. Donors screened from 22 July 2024 used a Myriad Foresight panel covering 266 conditions, and donors released before that date were screened with a Myriad Foresight panel covering 175 conditions. The individual donor report should be consulted rather than assuming the newest panel applies to every donor.
Screening also includes personal and family medical history, chromosome analysis, physical examination, semen analysis, infectious disease testing, a psychological interview, drug testing and a criminal background check. Screening and health monitoring continue while a donor participates in the program.
